What is There to Do?

If you are new to town welcome, you are either going to love or hate this place, either way it's fine. If you are a girl, welcome to the Island, watch your back- don't string too many guys along at once if you can help it. If you are a guy, good luck to you as well, don't let this place shake your confidence!
For you club hopping types, forget it. You'd better make some friends with a nice house and stick to house parties, because you won't be going out.
Archery You can get supplies at Bear Country, and the Kodiak Island Archers always welcome new members! They even have their own 3d range!
Bars Depending on who you are, there is a bar here for you. Some of the names you will hear include the Village (for Cowboys), Tony's (for Fishermen), the Mecca (for Fishermen, Coasties and anyone), the B&B (Salty Old Men Only!), Henry's (Family orientated).. ask your local fisherman for an update!
Basketball Check the Recreational Center, next to the Post Office, they should know. If you have a military ID then use the facilites out on base.
BeachesLots of beautiful beaches! Visit my beach page for more information!
Beer I don't think there are any local breweries yet. There is a winery out in Chiniak, that's about it!
Camping Camping is not restricted to state parks, if you find a place you like, camp there!
Coffee There are many different coffee shops in Kodiak, you will find one just about everywhere you need it to be. Mill Bay Coffee has excellent coffee, tea and fresh baked goods. Harbour Side has fresh baked girls, there are many little coffee kiosks that pop up and down dependeding on the season. There are also some monks that run a coffee shop named Monks Rock located under Eugene's (the Chinese Restaurant).
Cooking If you are a guy and you can cook, you've got a leg up on your competition! Keep it up! There are several different grocery stores for your cooking needs. Ardingers has beautiful kitchen supplies if you want to impress a girl!
Country Music Geeze I don't know.. The Village Bar?
Dance *sigh* you are going to the Mecca kid.
Dating You're on your own for this one buddy! Just remember 16 is the age of consent in Alaska!
Eating Out Lots of great restaurants!! Eugene's is the best Chinese food, (say hi to James). Kodiak Inn is romantic, so is the Buskin River Inn. There is Mongolian BBQ, El Chicanos is Mexican.."2nd Floor" is sushi, Beryl's is good for desserts mmmm it's all good!
Fishing Same applies as "Hunting". You can fish pretty much everywhere, just make sure you get a license at a local shop. There are some restrictions after August, just check it out when you get your license.
Four Wheeling Hook up with your friends and head out for Saltry Cove, just make sure you bring chains!
Gym Last I heard there was a gym up next to Eugene's restaurant downtown, but for the best gym take yourself to the Coast Guard gym, it's gorgeous.
Hiking You can't help but hike if you are walking around. It's a mountainous island, but it also has world class serious hiking if you are looking for it.
Hunting Check Cy's sporting goods, Macks or Bear Country if you need supplies or guides.
Ice Skating Only if it gets cold enough! It may not.
Jazz Check the Kodiak Inn on Saturday nights? As about Dr. Bob's group.
Kayaking There are several local guides/groups for this.
Live Music Some of the bars, occasionally, the Kodiak Inn on Saturday nights, and check Monks Rock. In July there is the Bear Country Music Festival, it's a weekend or so of great Live music from all over the US.
Monks They should still be under Eugene's Restaurant. Visit their gift shop for beautiful things and a great cup of coffee.
Movies Orpheum movie theatre, the movies might be a few weeks late, but it's clean and friendly. The Coast Guard base also has a movie theatre that is actually a converted pool, so expect unorthodox seating.
Movies Rentals Crossfox or Blockbuster, don't worry! You aren't totally stranded!
Photography Ample opportunity here! You can spend a small fortune on film, get it developed any number of places. There are also professional photographers available to take photos to send back home to mom.
Picnicking For a romantic picnic, try Ft. Ambercrombie or the top of Pillar Mountain!
Pool (green fuzzy tables) No pool halls for the sake of pool, check the bars
Pool (see "Swimming)
